SPI is the leader of a consortium that has been
selected by the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB) to provide consultancy
services to improve the use of the Mining Canon funds by Public Universities in
Peru.
Canon is a tax payed by mining companies to the Government in Peru. Part of the funds raised by this tax is directed towards research and development projects at public universities in the mining regions.
SPI leads a consortium including the Spanish company Serviguide Consultoría, SL and the local partner INNOVAPUCP, Centro de Consultoría y Servicios Integrados de la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú.
The project runs from February to June 2012. SPI will identify the difficulties that currently exist in the allocation to and implementation of the Canon mining funds by public universities in Peru, and develop practical recommendations to improve their effectiveness.
